The divine conversation of Kabir with King Amar Singh, as narrated to Dharamdas, reveals a profound and detailed account of how a powerful king and his queen were guided toward true devotion. This episode describes not only their transformation but also the circumstances, doubts, experiences, and divine events that led them to accept initiation from Kabir Sahib. (Ref: Amar Singh Bodh)
Kabir Sahib Explains the Limitation of Existing Worship
Kabir Sahib begins by explaining to King Amar Singh that the path he was currently following was not the path to liberation. He clearly states that such worship only leads to the results of actions—both good and bad. A person must experience the consequences of sins as well as the rewards of good deeds.
He further explains that even Vishnu cannot remove these accumulated actions. Kabir Sahib then declares that He will give a Naam, the repetition of which destroys all sins and leads the soul to a realm far more blissful than heaven.
Hearing this, the king found it difficult to believe. However, the fear of death and the possibility of falling into lower life forms such as animals and birds deeply affected him. At the same time, he was greatly impressed by the divine radiance of Kabir Sahib. This combination of fear and attraction led him to decide to take initiation.
The Queen’s Doubt and Her Arrival
Before taking initiation, King Amar Singh went to call his queen, who resided on the seventh floor of the palace. Her name was Swarkala. When the king explained that there exists a Supreme God beyond Vishnu and a realm far superior to heaven, the queen initially doubted this. She feared that such a belief might be false and could bring ridicule.
The king responded that he had never seen a saint like Kabir Sahib and urged her to come and see for herself. After hearing this, the queen agreed.
When Queen Swarkala came to meet Kabir Sahib, she was accompanied by seven of her companions. This itself was an extraordinary event, as she had never come down from the palace before. The entire royal court—soldiers, ministers, and attendants—gathered in surprise, wondering what had caused her to appear in public.
The Extraordinary Beauty of Queen Swarkala
When the queen partially lifted the veil from her face, her beauty was described as so radiant that it appeared as if a second sun had descended upon the earth. Those who saw her for the first time were astonished and remarked that she was not a queen, but a goddess.
This description highlights the prosperity and fortune that King Amar Singh and his queen possessed—royal status, beauty, wealth, health, and a life surrounded by comfort and power.
The Hidden Reason Behind Fortune
In this narration, Kabir Sahib explains that such fortune is not accidental. It is the result of accumulated good actions from previous births. When a soul gathers a large amount of positive deeds over many lifetimes, it receives a human birth along with wealth, status, and comfort.
However, He also clarifies that such individuals often consume the results of past good actions without engaging in true devotion in the present life due to lack of spiritual guidance.
Despite this, such souls have a special quality—they are naturally inclined toward discussions about God. Because of this, the Supreme God Himself creates opportunities to guide them back to the true path.
Kabir Sahib explains that He accepted King Amar Singh in the same way He had accepted Dharamdas—through divine intervention and guidance.
The Initiation of the King and Queen
After witnessing Kabir Sahib and hearing His words, both King Amar Singh and Queen Swarkala accepted initiation.
They expressed deep devotion. Kabir Sahib was seated on a throne, and the king and queen washed His feet with great reverence. The water used to wash His feet was collected as sacred nectar.
The king poured water over His feet, and the queen carefully washed them and dried them with a cloth. Their devotion was sincere and filled with humility.
The Divine Meal and a Miraculous Event
After this, food was prepared and served. Kabir Sahib and the king were each served in separate plates, and they began eating. The queen herself served the food with devotion.
During this time, a miraculous event occurred. Kabir Sahib’s plate rose slightly above the ground, making it easier for Him to eat. The queen noticed this and immediately informed the king.
Soon, the attendants and others present gathered and witnessed this event. This confirmed in their minds that Kabir Sahib was not an ordinary person but a realized and powerful saint.
The Awakening of Devotion in All Present
After witnessing this divine occurrence, all those present—men and women alike—developed deep faith. They requested sacred food from Kabir Sahib.
Kabir Sahib distributed the blessed food to everyone present. As a result, devotion arose strongly in their hearts.
Following this, not only the king and queen but many others also accepted initiation.
A Complete Transformation Through Divine Guidance
This narration presents a complete and detailed account of how King Amar Singh and Queen Swarkala were guided from doubt to faith. It shows how even those living in great comfort and power can be led toward true devotion when they encounter the Supreme Saint.
Through direct interaction, clear explanation, and divine demonstration, Kabir Sahib transformed their understanding and initiated them onto the path of true devotion.
